The name Ky-Enie (pronounced Ki-eeny) was given to him by a Rasta man who saw the spirit of a warrior in him, and he proves that old man right at every turn. A true expression of Reggaes versatility, his live performances take you on a journey that is rooted in Reggae but makes stopovers in Dancehall, Rock, Acoustic Soul, and sometimes even a little Hip Hop. His blend of spiritual vibes and hardcore truths shows his listener the depth of his understanding. His songs both fast and slow hold a consciousness beyond his years. When asked about his lyrical strength Ky-Enie replies, My inspiration comes from everyday life and mostly from the Most High, He's the one who penned all the work.
Born in St. Anns parish of Jamaica, W.I., Ky-Enie decided as a teenager that he would pursue his passion for music. He stepped out on faith and began entering competitions and talent showcases. I guess I've always loved to perform, whether it was singing or dancing, I was always on stage. The energy from the audience just hypes me up. He used his early days time to hone his skills and cultivate his own voice. Soon he found himself moving in a different direction from the many performers who simply followed the popular trends. Ky-Enie has always remained true to his talent and stayed the course.
Over the years Ky-Enie has been turning out audiences from Jamaica to Canada to the USA. With his hard-edged vocal style, lyrical versatility, and explosive stage presence, he always leaves the crowd wanting more. I deliver, whether its one person in the audience or a million. That's what I do, I deliver. I never fall short on a performance. He counts among his inspirations the late Bob Marley, Buju Banton, and Tracy Chapman. When he is performing on stage, he wants his audience to, feel the positive side of the music and where I am coming from. Id like them to feel the spiritual side of it as well as the party vibe.
Throughout his years in the industry this artist has been favored to work with producers such as Ed Robinson, Robert Livingston, Christopher Birch, Shane Brown and Goldenchyl to name a few. He credits them all with helping him bring out different sides of his musical gifts. Most recently his songs can be heard on VP Records Riddim Driven series: Don't Wanna Be Alone on the My Baby riddim spent 8 weeks on the Top Ten Reggae chart in St. Croix. VP also released Times Rough on the Return to Big Street riddim, and Mampie Size on the famed Wild 2 Nite riddim. His hotter-than-hot performances have blessed stages from the Elite Ark and Footprints to Miami's Bicentennial Park. He has been seen on Irie Jamboree since its inception and he recently performed at both the UniverSoul Circus half-time show and at Reeboks Grand Prix Track and Field event at Randalls Islands Icahn Stadium.
Fans cant wait to hear more from this artist who has opened for headliners such as Shaggy, Sean Paul, Buju Banton, Sizzla, Capleton and Beres Hammond. His first single Wings of an Angel, a self-produced ballad, also receives consistent radio play on Irie Jam 93.5 FM in New York and WRJR in Jamaica, and achieved Top Ten status in the U.S. Virgin Islands. His single Rain can be heard in the new remade for theatre version of Shottas. His new single Lambsbread, is currently number one on the Germany Reggae Top Ten charts. Ky-Enie's humble nature, along with his fierce determination and uplifting attitude, has clearly positioned him as a force in Reggae music!
